Michelau im Steigerwald 2018

The valuable organ by Johann Philipp Seuffert from 1750 was completely restored by us.

In addition to the beautiful Balthasar Neumann church, the parish of St. Michael in Michelau im Steigerwald has a very special organ with nine stops by Johann Philipp Seufert from Würzburg from the year 1750.
Johann Philipp Seuffert was born in Gössenheim in 1693 and died in Würzburg in 1780. On 12 July 1731 he was awarded the coveted title of "Court Organ Maker of Würzburg".
The organ in Michelau was rebuilt in 1880 and received a free-standing console. The "short octave" was supplemented with the notes Cs, Ds, Fs and Gs. Apart from these alterations, the instrument was almost completely preserved. After a number of consultations with the diocese and the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, it was decided that the organ should be preserved in its original condition.
We carefully dismantled the instrument and transported it to our workshop.
All components were documented and carefully and consistently restored according to old practices. Among other things, the bellows were completely re-leathered and the worn leather parts on the wind chests were renewed.
In order to obtain a reasonable playing position, the console was moved slightly forward.
We thank the parish of St. Michael, Michelau for this beautiful and important order.
